This was a Christmas gift for my then, 5 month old son. He just now, at 12 months, started to appreciate it. Very cute that you can program him to know what your baby's favorites are, and his name! Durable, easy to wipe clean and 2 volume levels and an "off" switch is great. Leap Frog is a brand I've come to trust.
Violet was so popular, I bought Scout for my son August 30, 2010

This is a really cute and cuddly puppy. Very soft, and put together well. I bought Violet for my daughter's first birthday and loaded the puppy with her name (Claire) and other customizations. My 4 year old son loved the dog so much, he asked for his own, so now we have a Scout and a Violet. My 4 year old plays with his dog more than the 1 year old, but I'll give it some time. Neither child has a stuffed animal lovie yet (son has a little baby blanket he loves, daughter has no lovie as of yet).
br /There is an amazing varriety of names avaliable at the website, more than my baby names book! Also, nicknames like princess and monkey if you have a truly unique name for your child.

br /The songs don't really have much variety to choose from, even though they are customizable. The best songs are the ones they already have preloaded on Scout/Violet, the ones you can load from the website are non-recognizable baby muzak.

br /There is a huge variety for My Favorite Animal and Food. My Favorite Color is just the primary basics.

Scout is the first toy that my grandson called for and looked for.
br /"Scout" would be his first call when he woke up from a nap and kept him company on car adventures.
br /I just bought a second one for a cousin who is 4 months older.
br /The lullabys are great and the conversations can be personalized with a quick computer hook up.

I Bought this toy for my 1 year old daughter (we bought "violet" of course). It is EASY to program on the internet and you can change the options as your child changes!!! I liked it so much I bought 3 more of the "Scout". 2 for my little cousins and 1 for my Grandson!!! I would recommend this toy. I paid way more than the 17.00 for this at another big retail chain and still am glad I bought it. I feel like at 17.00 and some change with free shipping it is a incredible value! Your child will love it. I love the songs that it sings with my child's name and personal choices such as favorite color, favorite animal and favorite food. The way it "speaks" to my daughter is too too cute! I don't think you can go wrong with this Toy. The only problem we had was that my daughters name is NOT common enough to be on the large list of names. "Laiken" was not there. But "Grace" was which is her middle name and that worked out fine! Maybe in the future they will add the name "Laiken" and we can change it then. My daughters hugs and squeezes her little dog and her eyes really light up when it says "I love you Grace". :)
