5 out of 5 stars Assembly was fun, not a nightmare - seriously!   September 5, 2010
Isabelle Green (Berkeley)
I bought this for my soon-to-be-one-year-old's birthday, and only read the reviews of the horrors of assembly after the purchase, but before assembly. I debated returning it after hearing stories of missing parts, using hair dryers to make pieces fit, missing screw holes, etc., but decided it was worth trying anyway. I am not a mechanic, just a mom of two young boys who likes the challenge of assembly. I did follow the reviewers' advice of watching the online video instructions of assembly, and barely even looked at the printed instructions except to confirm that the screws or pieces I was using were the right ones. br / br /So, all-in-all, I put most of it together by myself during my boys' naptime - it took maybe an hour and fifteen minutes at the most. I watched the entire assembly video once before watching it again and following along, pausing it when I needed to double check something. The hardest part was getting the roof posts to fit adequately into the roof, and you do have to jiggle around with it and tell yourself that you won't let your story become one of those horror stories, and somehow the pieces fit. One of the rear posts could fit slightly better, but hey, it's sturdy and screwed in, and I even had a couple of extra red caps that came with it in case one came off. br / br /Is an hour and fifteen minutes of assembly worth years of happiness? I think so, and can hardly wait to see the look on my sons' faces when we roll out the car tomorrow. Some reviewers say that they wouldn't wish the experience of assembling this vehicle on their worst enemy, but I actually found it so easy I would gladly do it for a friend. br / br /

1 out of 5 stars There are so many better toys   August 23, 2010

This toy is an absolute nightmare to assemble. I wouldnt wish it on my worste enemy. I'm pretty handy with tools in general, and have lots of exerience putting toys together, but this thing is in a league of its own. It's easier to work on my Porsche that to put this "Cozy Coupe" together.

4 out of 5 stars Have a handyman nearby...   August 20, 2010

I was so excited when I ordered this Cozy Coupe because my son wanted one desperately. It arrived it just a couple days and my son lit up as soon as he saw the picture on the box. However, as soon as I started assemply of the million little pieces, my joy started to fade. The pieces were near impossible to put together, and in the end it took me, my husband, his dad and brother (and power tools!)to put together this toy. Ours was the 30th anniversay edition, and I just have this to say: Why is it that after 30 years, assembly hasn't gotten any easier?

4 out of 5 stars Can't get he out of it!   August 11, 2010

My granddaughter is a little thing. In the 5th percentile in height and weight so naturally I thought she would we small for this toy but I couldn't resist one for grandma's house. My son did have difficulty putting it together (I didn't even ask grandpa, he and "manual" don't get along) just as the reviews stated, but man was it all worth it. My granddaughter has not stopped playing with it since she got it. As soon as she get's here, she runs for her "car" which I have decorated with yellow flowers. (I'm from the 70's what can I say!) She's one and we say "open" and she open's the door, and "close' and she closes the door. I can't say enough about this toy! It's been the best toy w've bought her and believe me I've bought her many since she is my first and we are still "BABY DRUNK" around here. I gave it 3 stars on overall durability because we keep having to fix the wheels on it. Educational, I do suppose she has gotten rather coordinated in many ways and is able to understand push , close and open and identify it as a "car". Not bad for a one year old. She also is learning if she opens the door we stop pushing the car so she is learning to keep the door shut. br / br /One Thrilled Grandma

5 out of 5 stars assembly issue   August 4, 2010

I bought this for one of my daughter's friends and she loved playing with it after I finally got it assembled and when they play at his house they fight over it. I did have assembly problems. The directions and video were clear and it went well untill the last few steps. The pieces of the top were not molded properly and didn't fit. No matter how many times I watched the man on the video pop them together, they didn't fit. I didn't order it in time to get replacement parts so I shaved the offending area with sissors and made it fit. The customer service at little tikes is great so I know that they would have sent me the piece, but no time. It is a great little car that is fun to play with.
