Amazon.com Product Description
The Kettler name has been synonymous with top-quality wheel toys for kids for more than 40 years, and the Kettler Alana Tricycle is no exception to the Kettler quality and design standards. The frame is constructed with high-carbon steel to last a lifetime and a fade-resistant polyester powder-coat finish with sturdy molded plastic components. Designed to grow with your child, the brightly colored Alana Trike will provide your child with years of fun through multiple stages of development from one year old through six years old. With the included removable chrome-plated push bar, the Alana Trike evolves from a parent-directed ride-on toy to an independently operated tricycle, all the while growing in size along with your child. pThe Alana Trike has a four-position telescoping frame with a one bolt release so it can grow with your child or be used by multiple children. The four-position adjustable high-back seat with a handhold is appropriate and supportive enough for one year olds and sturdy for rough riding four year olds. The parent-operated chrome plated push bar allows kids to ride and enjoy the trike long before they learn to pedal, as young as 12 months old or as soon as they can grip the handles. The push bar makes the trike a great stroller alternative for eager and active one year olds who don't like being passive passengers./p pAs your child grows he or she will be able to reach and operate the pedals, first with the guidance of an adult helping with the push bar, and eventually on his or her own. Pedaling the trike helps kids build confidence and leg strength as they explore independently. Designed to be safe for young riders, the Alana has wide synthetic MaxXtread tires that provide excellent traction for all-terrain riding and are super stable. The trike has a low center of gravity and limited turn radius steering that restricts the handlebars and front wheel from turning more than 45 degrees to the left or right, radically reducing the danger of tipping over. The trike is also equipped with a fun rear-tipping bucket that is great for both carrying and collecting supplies and is easy to remove and clean when necessary. The Kettler Alana Tricycle is a standout toy for both its quality and its longevity./p pstrongSpecifications:/strong/p ul liRecommended ages: 1 to 6 years old /li liFour-position telescoping frame with one bolt release /li liFour-position adjustable high-back seat with hand hold /li liChrome-plated push bar included /li liHigh-carbon steel frame /li liFade-resistant polyester powder-coat finish /li liLimited turn radius steering device /li liSynthetic MaxTread tires /li liRemovable tipping bucket /li liNine-inch front tire /li liSix-inch back tires /li liDimensions: 26 x 29 x 18 inches (LxWxH) /li liWeight limit: 100 pounds /li liAssembly required /li /ul pstrongWhat's in the Box?/strongbr / Tricycle and components, chrome-plated pushbar/p pstrongManufacturer Warranty/strongbr / Three-year limited manufacturer's warrantybr //p

5 out of 5 stars great trike   July 20, 2010
mom of two
My daughter (19 months) loves this trike! If it's out, she's on it. She's tall for her age and can just barely reach the pedals. She doesn't pedal it herself yet, but usually keeps her feet on while we push. We did not purchase a seatbelt and haven't needed one.

1 out of 5 stars Handlebars do not align!   May 27, 2010

I should have listened to the other reviews about this tricycle, which complained of the same problem. My daughter can't ride her trike because the handlebars face one way and the front wheel faces another. No matter how much we tighten the clamp or reassemble the handlebars, the tricycle will not steer true to form. To Kettler's credit, they have a wonderful customer service department. They sent us a replacement clamp but that still did not fix the problem. They are now sending us a whole new set of handlebars! The trike isn't even a month old. The representative admitted that this was a call they frequently received. I'd also like to add that the trike is on the small side, so if you have a toddler or preschooler that is slightly above average in size, I would not choose this particular trike or company. Radio Flyer makes them a little larger, with room to grow.

3 out of 5 stars No breaks!   April 21, 2010

I should have read the description better, but I just assumed all bikes have a braking system of some sort. If this one has brakes, I can't find them. The bike is cute and my 20 mo daughter likes pushing herself around on it (without using the pedals). It was horrible to put together, lots of screws and nuts of varying sizes as well as fairly cryptic instructions. I ended up with 4 extra screws but the bike seems to be solidly built nonetheless. br / br /Because of the missing brakes I am thinking I should have just paid the extra and gotten a Kettler "plus" instead.

3 out of 5 stars Too Small   April 15, 2010

The description for this tricycle says to 6 years old - my daughter is 3 and we have adjusted the frame to the last hole and yet her knees are reaching the handle. This tricycle is most suitable children up to 2 years old. Unfortunately, because I've already assemble, I am not going to return.

3 out of 5 stars Broke after a few uses but we fixed it   March 31, 2010
Suzanne (California)
We love this pink bike and our daughter is crazy about it. But after about 10 uses it broke. I'll explain the problem. There is a plastic piece on the front tire - you can see it in the picture. It's a dark pink circle that holds the tire in place. There's one on each side of the tire. This piece broke from light wear with a 21 lb toddler. The front tire completely disconnected from the bike. br / br /My hubbie found a replacement at the hardware store and the bike is back to normal. Our daughter loves her outings. We also bought the Kettler seatbelt accessory- highly recommended. You might think they are snug on the seat but wait til you get to a hill or a bump in the sidewalk. Better safe. I'm thinking about getting her a helmet too.
